This is the drive with the same drive letter on both Servers. Click the Data Directories tab before clicking Next. The Installation Summary Page will appear. Click Close. Repeat these steps exactly on the second server in the cluster. Select Properties. Create a New Database for the purpose of the initial setup by right-clicking the Databases folder and selecting New Database….
Ensure the Recovery Model is equal to Full. This is an Availability Group requirement. Click OK. Another Requirement is an initial Database Backup. Enter a Name for the Availability Group. Select Databases to add to the Availability Group.
The previously created Database appears, is selected by default, and Meets Prerequisites. The Primary replica appears on the Specify Replicas page, Replicas tab. Select Add Replica and add the Secondary Replica the following screenshot from the second server. Then Click Listener.
The Secondary Replica is listed. Make the same selections as before for the additional options. Enter a Port. Endpoints Endpoints Tab use port Typically I put the listener on , , or Use this option to have the Availability Group creation wizard create an initial database backup to the share, restore the database to the Secondary Replica, and synchronize the two replicated databases.
To perform the steps manually select either Join Only , or Skip. The Wizard will Validate the selected options. Summary of selected options. Click Finish to create the Availability Group. In previous versions of Windows Server, you need shared storage to create a failover cluster for the quorum disk.
Windows Server and higher provided the option to use a file share witness as a quorum configuration. For this step-by-step, we will only be working with standalone SQL Server default instances.
Before deciding to implement this feature, take stock of your SQL Server licenses to make sure you have enough to get you covered. You then should see the cluster name. I have select the object Computer but it shows Node names ie: SystemNode1 but according to your steps, we have to mention the Cluster name , is it?
You should see the cluster name. Are you searching in the right directory? Do you see the cluster name in AD as a computer object? Do we install SQL Server individually on each node? If Yes, how? How do you add disks that are not used on each file server? The FIle Share Witness does not contain the application data, that is only used by the cluster to help maintain quorum and does not represent a single point of failure as it is simply 1 vote out of 3 votes in this configuration.
The application data resides locally on each cluster node and DataKeeper keeps it replicated between all the cluster nodes to ensure each node has a local copy of the data. Failover clustering controls which node is the source, so when a failover happens all the writes occur locally and are automatically replicated to all of the remaining nodes.
