Excellent game. Think less of GTA and more along the lines of the Yakuza series in terms of open-world, characters and story. Yes its a good game, but its not without its flaws. It has a good story and the characters, shooting mechanics, driving, etc are all good Basically the game funnels you down a certain path, and there isn't much to do besides that. Its a solid game and I enjoyed it, but didn't have a lot of replay value, imho.
I should also mention that the Developer who did Mafia 2 is not the same Developer that is doing Mafia 3. Rabillion 5 years ago 8.
I wasn't aware Mafia 3 was being created by a different company until you brought it up. Civilization 6 comes out in less than a month so it's hard to get hyped for Mafia 3. Plus, I don't like the time period they chose. If you keep your expectations low Mafia 2 is a great game. A lot of content got cut out but the story is still worth a a play through. Make sure the copy you're getting has the Greatest Hits red case because it has all the DLC on the disc.

Feb 12, 1, 34 The first Mafia was the same. Its open world did not have anything to offer too. Plus all the vehicles were so different from each other. I still remember stealing the race car in one of the missions and the speed just blew my mind. It was a very mature storyline and the game still is one of the greatest ever. Mafia 2 was so very polished and had amazing characters. Somehow, it seemed to fall short of its predecessor.

I'm not going to list any spoilers but I do feel like this plot is decent, the voice acting is pretty good for the most part, the in-car conversations are pretty humorous a lot of the time.
The driving is a HUGE improvement over the first game, the cars feel like real cars would from the 40s that is spongey suspension and sluggish acceleration, this is not bad design, it's how the actual cars behaved back then.
The map is actually displayed in the radar instead of the lame "map" that's in the first game. The guns are all fun, though the pistols pretty much all seem the same power, even the magnum and the magnum sound a little goofy, like a cartoon gun. There is an actual cover system in the game, and overall the fights are much improved over the first game. This is a great game, it's heavy on graphics card, so I recommend looking into mods on how to disable the physics of the clothing in the game.

Only downfall with this game there is no side missions at all, just campaign. Story and gameplay are awesome definately check this out. I had great fun playing Mafia 2, but it's definitely too short. Still has a few bugs in it too, one of which required me to replay an entire level. Voice acting etc. That's not a totally bad thing of course.
